The Christmas Choral & Vocal Music series

Recital Music has developed a large, exciting and eclectic catalogue of Christmas music for choirs in recent years. Some works are published for the first time, others are in new editions, and we aim to provide accessible and enjoyable choral music for choirs of all ages and abilities. Enjoy!

I Sing of a Maiden is a simple but evocative carol for unaccompanied SATB choir. The homophonic style, use of mediaeval words and accessible tonal idiom create a work which should prove popular with choirs and audiences alike. The beautiful word setting reflects the quiet and tranquil mood of this most atmospheric carol.

I Sing of a Maiden was awarded 2nd Prize (category 2) in Recital Music's 2012 Christmas Carol Competition.

Derek Taverner initially trained as an organist with Dr. Harvey Grace amongst others and had a successful career as a London theatre and ballet conductor. He also worked as an orchestrator and arranger and won an Ivor Novello Award and is now retired and living in East Sussex.
