The Transcriptions Series series

Recital Music publish a wealth of original works for double bass alongside a popular, accessible and growing range of transcriptions for bassists of all ages and abilities. Most transcriptions published by Recital Music are by David Heyes, who has a successful and proven track record when arranging for double bass.

Franz Schubert (1797-1828) was enormously prolific during such a short life. He composed more than 600 songs which are now at the heart of the 19th-century German lied repertoire, his piano works and chamber music are performed and recorded worldwide, and a number of his symphonies are beloved by players and audiences alike.

Schubert's dance music, usually written for piano, is a link between the late Classical age and the early stirrings of Romanticism. All the composers of the day composed for the dance and Schubert's works are evocative, simple, lyrical, vibrant and engaging.

Viennese Dances, arranged for double bass quartet by David Heyes for a concert on 13 October 2013, includes four landler or waltzes interspersed with brief but exquisite ecossaises in 2/4 time. Bassists should feel free to perform as many or as few dances as they like and in any order. The melodic material is shared between the four players, although bass 1 has the majority, but each player is able to contribute a great deal to the success of each performance.
