The Fizz @ 50 series

A series of fifty short pieces for double bass and piano from composers throughout the world, instigated by David Heyes to celebrate his 50th birthday. Each composer received a bottle of champagne (Fizz) as payment.

Chris Brown writes: 'A Midsummer Idyll was written in July 2011 for solo double bassist, David Heyes. A warm and atmospheric poem for the double bass with piano accompaniment, which could be transposed equally well on harp and muted strings, reflects my love of nature in a flowing, unhurried cantilena, using a musical language close to English folk song.'

A Midsummer Idyll was premiered at Wells Cathedral School (Somerset) on 26 February 2012 by Nic Lum (double bass) and Gemma Beeson (piano).
