South Korean composer Sung-Min Ahn was the winner of the 2010 Shipley Arts Festival Composition Competition and Dreamland was premiered on 4th July 2010 by the Bernardi Chamber Orchestra conducted by James Whitbourn, as part of the closing concert of the 2010 Shipley Arts Festival in West Sussex.

Dreamland is a lyrical and picturesque one-movement work written in an effective and accessible style. There are few technical challenges but scope to create magical landscapes and atmospheres within a relatively small timespan. It would fit easily into any concert and for any audience, and received a wonderful reception at its premiere.

The composer writes: I remember a beautiful view that I saw when I was a small boy. My memory of this view is still vivid and it made a very strong impression - this place is always in my heart. Dreamland was inspired by many West Sussex composers and when I listen to their music they often remind me of the beautiful landscape I saw. I tried to express the feelings of that moment. This is Dreamland."
