Bass-Fest 2013 is a celebration of the double bass and will include a full programme of workshops and concerts. Directed by David Heyes, Bass-Fest is open to bassists of all abilities, from the age of 16 years, and younger players are welcome by agreement. There will be many performance opportunities including technique sessions, massed bass orchestra, and masterclasses alongside the possibility to study new repertoire in a friendly, relaxed and informal environment.
Bass-Fest 2013 will feature a number of informal concerts, celebrating a wide range of solo and ensemble repertoire, and the opportunity to hear and perform works by our four Featured Composers - Teppo Hauta-aho (Finland), Simon Garcia (Spain), Tony Osborne (UK) and John Alexander (UK).

Bass-Fest highlights will include a workshop on Teppo Hauta-aho's iconic Kadenza and a rare opportunity to hear the composer play the most important modern contemporary work for unaccompanied double bass; the UK premiere of a number of exciting bass ensembles by Simon Garcia; Question & Answer sessions with expert luthier, Martin Penning
Simon Garcia has been commissioned to write a new work for massed basses which will be premiered on Wednesday 7 August 2013. The commission has been kindly funded by UK luthier, Martin Penning.

FEE: £150.00 per person or £135.00 if booked by 1 March 2013 (scholarships and bursaries are available)
Daily Rate: £35.00 per person
The fee includes morning coffee and afternoon tea but does not include accommodation or meals.

The Silk Mill is in the very heart of Frome, a beautiful and historic market town at the foot of the Mendip hills, and has many pubs, restaurants and cafes within a few minutes walk.
