Recital Music

50 Not Out!

David Heyes, the founder of Recital Music, celebrates his 50th birthday in September 2010.

David Heyes has arranged more than 150 works for double bass, almost half of these are in print with Recital Music and AM Publications, and has commissioned more than 430 works for the instrument over the past two decades. He is passionate about increasing the double bass repertoire by commissioning new works and rediscovering forgotten works which are no longer in print or have remained in manuscript. His studies with Frantisek Posta (Principal Bass, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra) in Prague in the late 1980s, led to a great interest in the Czech solo repertoire, and a number of works by Kuchynka, Cerny, Tulacek and Gajdos are now featured in the catalogue.

Between September 2010 and September 2011 Recital Music plan to publish 50 original works for double bass. The aim is for about two-thirds of the pieces to have been written over the last ten years, and one-third of works from the the rich history of double bass repertoire during the late 19th and early 20th-centuries.

If you would be interested to sponsor a publication we would be very happy to hear from you, or if you have any suggestion of works which should still be in print.
