Recital Music was founded in 1986 and is an independent music publishing firm, owned by David and Sarah Heyes, and has published more than 500 works for double bass, from beginner to virtuoso, including music by some of the leading composers writing for the instrument today.

A comprehensive and ever-growing catalogue of music for the beginner, amateur or professional bassist contrast original works with transcriptions, and music from one to sixteen players. In 2003 Recital Music began to expand the scope and breadth of its publishing plans and now produces a wide range of chamber, vocal and string orchestra music for musicans of all ages and abilities.

Recital Music publications are performed worldwide, a number have been recorded recently, and many are included on grade examination and diploma lists. We are the primary publisher of Tony Osborne, Teppo Hauta-aho, Miloslav Gajdos, John Alexander, David Ellis, Peter Lamb and Armand Russell, who have each written works for every level of performer, and many new works are in preparation.

Vocal and choral music was an important focus in 2011 following the great success of the 2010 Recital Music Song Writing Competition which attracted 108 songs from 14 countries. In Flanders Fields is a new series of choral pieces with texts by John McCrae or Rupert Brooke with a theme of remembrance and reconciliation. New works will be published each month as this part of our new initiative to create a unique and eclectic catalogue for singers and choirs, and we have a large catalogue of Christmas music for choirs of all ages and abilities.

Our website has been a great success, allowing musicians, and especially double bassists, around the world to see and read about our many publications, and the site has received hits from more than 130 countries.
